Style Icon: Elizabeth Taylor

Richard Burton with Elizabeth Taylor.  Here she is wearing the famous 69.42 carat Taylor-Burton diamond around her neck - a gift he purchased for a record $1.1 million in 1969.

There is a lot to love about Elizabeth Taylor - her beauty, her talent, but perhaps most of all her fearless imperfection.  She was never a conventional Hollywood actress - always a bit too short, often a bit to wide, but was there ever anyone more beautiful?  She never claimed to be perfect, never hid her problems from the world.  When asked why she married so much - 8 times to 7 husbands  - she would charmingly reply, "I don't know, honey. It sure beats the hell out of me."  She was a staunch supporter of the causes she believed in - a champion in the fight against AIDS, she continually supported the cause, despite initially being told by her publicist that it would negatively affect her image.

The reason I highlight Elizabeth this week is because I am anxiously awaiting November 25th, when Lifetime premieres Liz & Dick, a film chronicling Taylor's relationship with her fifth husband, Richard Burton.  The also talented and imperfect Lindsay Lohan plays Elizabeth and I. can't. wait.  See this teaser:

"I can tell you what I think is sexy in a man. It has to do with warmth, a personal givingness, not self-awareness. Richard [Burton] is a very sexy man. He's got that sort of jungle essence that one can sense. It's not the way he combs his hair, not the things he wears; he doesn't think about having muscles. It's what he says and thinks."

"I've always admitted that I'm ruled by my passions. "

"The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues."

"Big girls, need big diamonds."
