Frieze Art Fair (Post 2 of 2)

Jennifer Allora & Guillermo Calzadilla, Solar Catastrophe, 2012, Broken solar cells on canvas, 92 x 73 1/8 in.
(A close-up.  I liked this piece from a distance, but only truly appreciated it when I realized the medium.)

Chantal Joffe, Blonde in White Cami-Knickers, 2012, Oil on board, 183.2 x 121.6 cm
(I love the way this is painted.  A reviewer once said "[Joffe] paints with a kind of easy control - effortless without being slick."  I agree with that.  Also, is Rachel McAdams the model?!  And, the pose reminds me a bit of this image.)

Abraham Cruzvillegas
(A close-up of a very large scale painting on a canvas tarp.)

Hassan Sharif, Slipper, 2012, Mixed media, 210 x 60 (dia) cm

Lorna Simpson, Just Before, 2011, collage and ink on paper, 11 x 8.5 in.
(We loved these glamour shots with the added hairstyles!)

Wolfgang Tillmans, Gold (e), 2002, Print, 30.48 x 40.64 cm
(One of a series of photos of gold bars.  Pretty cool!)

Unknown from the Elizabeth Dee New York Gallery

Jonathan Horowitz, Coke/Pepsi (180 cans), 2011, UV ink on vinyl, 117 x 84 inches
(A close-up.  This reminded me (and probably you) of Warhol's famous Campbell's Soup cans.)

Unknown from the Casey Kaplan New York Gallery
(A close-up of a very large painting.  For me, texture is what makes so many paintings interesting.)

Doug Aitken, One, Hand carved foam, hand silk-screened acrylic, Varied ed. 1/4, 101 x 214 x 20.3 cm
(Doug Aitken is now one of my favorite artists.  I was unknowingly drawn to his work in three different galleries.)

Unknown from Galerie Chantal Crousel
(I like to call it Golf Popcorn)

Bjorn Dahlem, M-Spheres (Room Spheres), 2012
(I am sure that I don't appreciate this piece correctly, but I liked it and it made me smile.  To me, it looked like an extremely well-executed - albeit confused - science project.)

Anselm Reyle
(A close-up from the man who makes me wonder where all of my paint-by-numbers books went.  His work is so cool.)
