Here's the finished product!!!
Pastel Buttercream Frosting:
1 1/2 pounds unsalted butter, soft
3 cups sifted powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
1 pinch of salt
1 package of food coloring
Mix the soft butter with an electric mixer at a low speed while adding the powdered sugar. Next add in the vanilla and salt and continue to beat for another 5 minutes. Then divide the frosting into different bowls to mix each color you will be using. Make sure to clean your mixer before making each color!
I made one bowl of mint green, one bowl of teal and one bowl of pink. But by all means use the color chart below to make your own colors! If you're not using store bought cans (and 16 ounces of frosting) for each color then adjust the number of drops and stick with the ratios (i.e. I used 3 drops of green and 1 of yellow for my mint green). You get the idea. Also, to make the pale pink I simply added 2 drops of red. I thought pale pink was a bit more Easter than dusty rose.

First, frost the cupcakes. Then prepare a decorating bag by fitting a small mouthed tip snugly in the bottom opening of the bag. Using a spoon, fill the bag 3/4 of the way full with the color frosting of your choice (you'll use this to make the bodies of your butterflies). Squeeze the frosting to the bottom of the bag until a bit comes out and do a test squiggle.
Draw a squiggle with antennae on each cupcake. You'll get faster the more you do.
Place a candy between the body and antennae of each cupcake.
Add the pretzel wings and voila! Cute butterfly cupcakes!
